what does a bts valve body do to help a trany? and how hard are they to install?

It's a whole new valve body so it redoes all your shifting. Makes your tranny shift smoother, easier, more efficient. John woods also has a valve body, hear its pretty good.

You could check around the web, or get a quote from the vendors on this site. On the main page there's a section just for request a quote. Installation wouldn't be harder than hand tools and patience.
