Default 2000 7.3 starts and dies in gear

Allright, have a 2000 f250 7.3 auto trans. Truck was perfectly fine running/ driving. This is my fathers truck, hes not into putting money into mods so I gave him my old edge evo. Yesteday I attempted to install it in his truck. I have had this edge for four years and had it in several trucks with no issues. Here is what happend:
Plugged it into obd port, was having connectivity issues, reverted to return to stock... Shouldnt have done this... Anyway loaded stock files etc. truck starts fine and runs fine in park put in drive and dies. Tried to load the edge programs and does the same thing...if you rev it up in park it throws ses light and code p1668 I think it was, ignition something malfunction? The od off light doesnt come on when you push the button...its like the ecm doesnt know what to do when in gear. Took ecm out and had been previously chipped(chip port plug was gone and the terminals were cleaned up). Anyone have any insight here? Like I said this was a good edge, truck was fine before this. Is it possible pervious owner just yanked chip out and maybe screwed something up or had a tuner and didnt put it back to stock? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Stands to reason that if it was doing fine, and all that was done was try and re-program the ECM and then it acted up, that probably the ECM programming is a mess. I have heard that Ford can reflash the ECM back to stock, but having never had it done I can't say that to be fact, but it sounds like that might be your next step, have the dealer reflash the ECM back to the stock or the newest "stock" program for your dad's truck. If that doesn't pan out you'll have to scour the junkyards for the proper ECM or order a refurbed unit. Then either leave it alone or get a TS piggyback chip, any time you flash the ECM your taking an awful big chance of not being able to get back to where you started from, at least with a TS you can take it off and the ECM reverts immediately back to stock. Well that and better programs, but who really cares that its the better option.

Thanks for the reply. I do believe the programming is a mess like you said. I just dont know why it would happen, I have never had this problem with any of the other 7.3s I have messed with. TS style chips are def. The way to go, I have them in both of my trucks with swamps tunes as well but the old man isnt into mods like all of us so I figured id give him my old edge. All I ended up doing was making his truck inoperable. I did call a local dealer and they can reflash but they tell me that they have to troubleshoot etc. b.s. I have a otc genesis scan tool and theyre no other codes. Most of the dealerships around here are not very diesel intelligent. Prob better off getting a used ecm.

Though its off subject, how do you like the stage1 injectors? Im guessing theyr the 175/146's? Looking at getting a set from swamps. My 01 has been getting around 11mpg for over a year now with 128k and I have ruled out everything else it could be other than injectors. They pass buzz and contribution test, seems to run ok but maybe down on power a bit and it will miss every once and a while around 1500 rpm

I tell anyone who asks, how do you like your stage 1's? I wish I bought stage 2's. The single shots are great, and they did add power with the ts programs, but now you wish you had even more power. So if I was to be back 2 years ago, I would skip the 1's and get the single shot 2's. Probably get better mileage with the 1's though, but when I want to roll coal on some clown I just can't really get it done.

Another thing you might want to look at is your HPOP, it might be a little weak and not pumping up the injectors efficiently, hence low MPG and lower than normal power. No exhaust leaks right? Turbo spools right up? Mine now has an up pipe leak and I know it, it ticks like a son of a gun and power stinks as the turbo doesn't spool up like it used to. Guzzle hooked me up with the intl bellowed up pipes but I haven't found the time to tear it apart and do the up pipes and rebuild the turbo.

I hear ya on the injectors. Im looking at the stage ones for 1 milage, 2 cost and 3 my truck has pmr rods, its a daily driver and id love to have 400 plus hp but I need to keep it reliable.

As for my truck: I had the up pipe leaks, started there last summer trying to get my mpg's back ( truck always did avg. 15 /20ish hwy since I bought is 5yrs ago). So, installed bellowed up pipes from guzzle, got my boost back but not mpg. I can build 25-27 psi pretty easily so im ruling turbo out as the culpret of my 4mpg loss. I replaced ipr, checked fuel psi under load, hpop is 11% dc idle, wot 30% at 2200-2400 psi give or take so that shouldnt be it. Ebp was cleaned, hooked up a mechanical hpop guage to make sure icp was not giving false readings, no rolling resistance I can push my truck across the shop by myself...no white smoke no contaminated fuel, oil or coolant, no fuel leaks, you name it I probably checked it so im at the point where I think hopefully injectors are going to be the answer unfortunately.

Just curious, what kind of mpg gain did you see after the stage 1's? Or what did you average before the up pipes started leaking? Swamps claims to see 3mpg gains withe theyre stage 1's. If I got 3mpg on top of the 15 I use to get that would make 18mpg, id be very happy with that.

Careful when you say 18mpg, cause noone buys that i got 19 to 20 on the stock steel duals by keeping it around 1850-1900 RPM's on the highway with the swamps high speed haul program. With the 22.5's I got a few trips over 20 same way, 1750, high speed haul, and going straight thru 88 gallons, no slowing, no stopping, getting them heavy tires rolling killed you running around town. Next set I'll turn down to 22's and run WAYYYY lighter tires.

I know what you mean on the mpg thing. I saw just over 20 the last long highway trip I took before I started having problems. What size tires are you running and what swamps tunes are you currently running?
As for the subject of my other issue with the 2000 of my dads, I think I know what exactly happend...last truck I had the edge in was my e99 6speed truck. I think it loaded the stock awa3 programming on his 2000 auto when it reverted to stock. I think I can undo this mess myself, I will let you know what happens.
