Run a good quality Dino oil and change it every 3-5k...

The rest of that crap is just that, crap...

 

So that's a no...neither have I, though I run Lucas in some of my stuff, I THINK it helps protect the engine, obviously some people disagree. These engines will run quite a while on basic routine maintainance, so it's probably not cost effective spending a bunch of money on additives. If it's only a few dollars per oil change it probably won't hurt, and might help quite a bit in the long run.

 

Not this stuff. I've run other stuff in my old truck. I don't see the point. I just run diesel fuel and dino oil. Simple as that. Seems to have worked for the 235k miles on the truck...

 

Lucas is the single worse thing you can run in a powerstroke... causes your oil to foam, foam is air, which kills your injectors on the oil side.

 

Personally, I am not a fan of any additives in my 7.3...rarely do they help do anything other than make your wallet lighter.

My father's truck coughed up a turbo after running lucas, not saying that is what did it...but I am sure it didn't help.

Look at a VOA of it...



There is literally nothing in it and it is 10 times as thick as 40wt motor oil.

 

I run Schaeffers or Schaeffers additive in everything. They test their product against every competitor they can find and then find out how to make their product beat ever one. When the company started out designing extreme duty greases and oils for the giant gear boxes in the coal field equipment it shows you where the focus is. Its on wear and protection not on trying to run 10,000 RPM. Once their "Molly" burns into the metal there is no longer any steel on steel contact and none of their products foam, Ever.

I personally watched 351W F150 get "cash for Politics"ed that had ran scheaffers 9000 for over 100K. They drained the oil and antifreeze and literally dropped a brick on the gas. Ran for 20 min strait. They then threw hand fulls of gravel outa the lot into the crank case and filled her full of water. ran another 25 min with every tech outa the shop watching it until a rod broke. Never seized the motor. You cud hit the starter and hear the clunk of the broken rod hitting the block.The dealership was a HUGE AmsOil dealer. They switched to Schaeffers the next Thursday.

 

I run full synthetic, not sure why, I didnt notice the oil taking longer to blacken like everyone says, it doesnt seem to run any different, it is a touch quieter, I do run standyne fuel additive, it also makes it a little quieter, I tried them seperatly and they both help the engine rattle, and the stanadyne gives more fuel mileage but when you break it down it equalls out to the same cost mpg.
