Question Changing turbos

I know a guy with a used turbo setup that came off a 2001 Powerstroke. I'm thinking about buying it from him and putting it on my e99. He has everything, pedistol, IC pipes, spyder, IC, it's the complete intake tract on a 7.3. It came off of a 90K engine, is $650.00 a good price for it?

Well the only advantage would b the compressor housing being 5 bolt u can get an aftermaket housing where our 4 bolt u cant... other than that from what I can see its all the same...

well right now, my turbo has a bad surge issue the bearings are very loose and a upgrade is a little out of budget. i have other things i need to pay for. but i think it's a pretty good price.

I would not pay that much for it. That's almost halfway to a good Turbo.

rebuild yours. turbos a pretty simple, not much to them you could prolly get that done for about $300 if you hand them the turbo, quite possible less. ide pass on a stock turbo for $650. i sold and installed my last Wh1C for $300

Think you can get a rebuild kit for like 50-75. If you were dead set on upgrading to the late 99 setup you could piece it together for alot less.

i just rebuilt mine for 80 bucks for the kit its really simple to do.... im waiting on a new backing plate for right behind the compressor wheel is cus i waited to long and the thrust bearing started too etch the backing plate and that was only 100 so i got 180 into my rebuild of course you gotta do it before you damage either of the wheels or price goes up accordingly but overall id rate it at like a 3 on how hard it is worst part honestly is gettin it off the truck if its never been off before, i was the first one too take mine off after 273k but bout and hr, a BFH and a can of blaster later it was off now that its all freed up i can take off in bout 30 min or less....
