Default air bag light?

My air bag light started coming on and off the other day. Yesterday it came on and has stayed on everytime I ve driven it. I have a ts 6pos chip. Does anyone know if I need to remove it before scanning and clearing codes? I don t want to mess it up. Also does anyone know if there is a common cause for it to come on in these trucks? Thanks

you shouldn't need to remove the chip to scan for codes. if you do remove it, remember, put the keys in your pocket.

ya x2 on the seatbelt. they have explosive pre tensioners that cinch the belt tight when airbags deploy. little cylinder thing with a cable attached to the buckle. make sure you disable airbag system before you start messin with those. i always disconnect the batteries and turn a bunch of stuff on but i might be doing it wrong. also the clockspring behind the steering wheel might have an open circuit. it is a coil of flatwire that allows you to turn the steering wheel and make contact for the steering wheel electronics. check to see if your horn and cruise buttons all still work. they could all still work and the clockspring could be bad but often they stop workin too. kind of expensive so make sure it is bad if you replace it.
