Default shift kits

im i little fuzzy on exactly what shift kits do, so i was hoping i could get some info.. i have a buddy that has a dodge 5.9 that has injectors custom tunes twin turbo and some other stuff.. he fried his tranny just a couple weeks after putting the mods on it. he found another used factory tranny and had a shift kit put in it and then put on his truck and now its been holding up for 20000+ miles.. do they really work? and how?

no idea man all i know it helps make you shift harder and releaseing pressure on the tranny but thats all i know bud try looking up "shift enhancers" i know bullydog makes one but i have no idea if its the same thing we r talking about

a properly installed shift kit is like buying an aftermarket VB from a tranny place. minus some of the fancy valves. a shift kit will raise line pressures, and make shifts firmer. most kits come with instructions for street towing or performance. pretty easy to do yourself. chrysler hydrolic systems SUCK so there are many ways to upgrade them this is one. these trannys get bad wraps because of this flaw, take it away and you have a fine tranny. TC and VB make a big difference

I don't mean to steal your thread. But since we're on the topics of shift kits. I would like to know if it's better to do a shift kit or a vb from BD diesel? Obviously the shift kit is the cheaper option. Thanks

its almost exactly the same thing, thats why they want your VB as a core. most VB's from say ATS or BD come with different valve and for that matter some of the shift kits do to. you save money if you do it yourself and dont F it up same goes for a VB.
