Default starter mount broken????

My son went out to start my truck and heard a noise and nothing... he looked under the engine and found the starter just hanging there... the ring that the starter mounts to broke in half... is this part of the transmission or a piece that goes in between the tranny and the engine? its a solid piece that goes up and over the transmission and comes down about halfway on the drivers side....

Help/////

the starter is on the left... the bolt you see is what bolts the starter to that ring.... its about an inch and half thick....

Its the spacer ring... How the hell did you break that?

Your going to have to pull the trans to change it out. Make sure you get one from an Auto if your truck is an auto or a manual if its a manual.

Not hard of a swap, just time consuming.

Yes, you do have it... They are thinner on the manuals... but they are there none the less.

I own a ZF6 7.3 and last month replaced the clutch and last week the starter. I can not recall there being a spacer around the starter hump on the ZF6. I also just went over my pictures and there's no small separation around the bell housing where it mates to the block.
