Default Tuning advice

My first post on this forum. But anyways, my questions is TW vs. Tyrant tuning. I currently have TS 6 position Tuned by Tony. I want to explore a little bit and find pros and cons of of more tuners. I have decided to go with Tyrant first. How are Cales tunes for the 7.3? What is the increased mileage for the economy tune, when driving good in the city and highway? Tony's street tune livens up the truck a lot from stock, and theres a bit more smoke than I like. How is Cale's race tune? And what is the smoke like from it? I have been talking to Tyrant over email and they claimed that I can get a clean race tune, or I can get a smokey race tune. Does anybody with experience know a difference between the clean and smokey race tune? Thanks guys
-Austin Herd

And if it'll help I'll list my mods since I don't have a sig yet.

2000 PSD Currently have TW tunes, 6637 filter, straight pipe, gauges.

I'm not sure many guys on here have used Tyrant but I have a couple buddies recently switch to his tunes and are sure happy with his tunes and customer service. I can't answer your specific questions but I know they like the tunes and you will be treated well with Cale.

What is the smoke like compared to Tony's tunes? My tunes from tony are pretty dirty and I'm wanting to clean it up a bit and explore. But if his race tune is real smokey I ain't gonna get on it with that tune unless I'm on the track.

i honestly can not answer that, i am running some proto type injectors and it has taken some trial to get the tuning dialed in.

Default 97 help

I know this is 99-03 but I am a new member and just bought a nice stock 97, 123,000. I was wondering what would be the least evasive mod for increasing performance , fuel mileage etc. without getting radical or endangering anything. I am going to put my 1800 lb. slid in camper on it and heading out for the rockies this spring. So it will see alot of cross country as well as mountain driving. Your advice would be appreciated

First get a 6637 filter. More air to your engine for cheap. Next get an exhaust. Since your truck is an OBS I would reccomend you get a 3.5 inch downpipe into a 4 inch exhaust. Then get a custom tuned chip. You can get one from Tyrant Diesel, total diesel performance, Beans diesel, PHP, DP, swamps and many more. From what you stated you'll BR doing with your truck this will suit you quite well

Add to that some gauges... At the very least, an EGT gauge to keep your motor from melting on ya..

OP, have you thought about sending your chip back to Tony to see if he can adjust your race tune for you... Either that or get more air into the engine. Or pay to switch tuners and get the same thing Tony could have done...

i just switched from TW to Tyrant, i ran in street 90 percent of the time on TW and i liked that tune A LOT, ive only had Tyrant for a week or so, so there is little to go off of here, i got stock, high idle, econ, daily, tow and race. econ is a great little tune, low smoke, but still has some pep when you need to get on it, daily is a little smoky and has pep to it, it can get it on havent towed yet so no comment there. race...holy crap, the 120 HP tune blows 3 times the smoke that my TW 140 extreme tune did (if youre into that), i can roast these tires like no ones business. it just seems flat out more power then the TW did. truck seems to run smoother, dont have any hick ups or weird issues going on with it, my trans shifts smoother with tyrant, i have a BD stage 4 race trans with some other goodies, firm when you lay into it and smooth when youre just cruising. so far i like Cales tunes better, i have a friend whos ran a bunch of chips, and had his TS retuned quite a few times, he likes Tyrant and Beans tuning the best,

How'd you order it? Cause I'm pretty sure you can't order from their website. So did you do it over email or did you call?
