No, A later model Superduty (Late 99 to 03 7.3l) IDM is actually an upgrade for the 96-early 99 7.3, the later in years, the higher the voltage output. There is also a mod with a resistor to make the OBS IDM crank up the voltage. Just get yourself a IDM from a 02 or 03 7.3 and be happy. If you can't find one you can buy a refurbed one for under 175 from a guy in florida. I can find his webpage again if someone needs it, I've been running on his 140V unit for over 3 years, no issues.

But to clarify, you can interchange any IDM's from a 7.3L Powerstroke... PCM's cannot be interchanged like that.

When infact you can use a SD IDM in an OBS, people do it all the time as an upgrade.
