DO NOT POUR YOUR USED MOTOR OIL IN THE TANK. That oil has metal particles in it. You want to use FILTERED veggie oil from a restaurant then go for it, 20-30% cooking oil to 70-80% diesel will be fine in most areas. You do need to let the oil set for a while (2-3 months) to get it to separate oil from water, that or you need to heat the oil up to over 212F to boil out the water, then seal the boil pot and let it cool without moisture reintroducing itself into the oil as it cools. You do not need to get fancy unless you want to burn straight veggie oil.

I have been using some used oil in the fuel in our 92 cummins. I have a centrifuge filter system and filter it through for several hours to make sure there are no particles left to clog the filter or wear the IP and injectors. I don't know what a good amount to use is. I have just been pouring some in with a tank of fuel.

There is not much time involved with my system. All I have to do is pour the oil into my filter system and turn it on, then walk away for a few hours while it does the work. I have over 200 gallons that has collected over time so the fuel cost that it will save is significant.

Default Used Oil being used in diesel fuel

Years ago and I mean years ago I remember there was a large Truck Fleet that ran a pressure oil line off to the fuel tank using a metered flow and every so many miles they would check the crankcase dip stick and add as many quarts of oil as needed. They would change the filter every so often and not change the oil only add. It was figured to save money on fuel as well as save on oil changes. Not sure how it worked out with all the changes in this world I lost track of the Fleet. Just some old history from about 40 years ago.
