Default quick axle question

My 99 power stroke stripped the gears so I was gonna get a new axle it is tag number 409C I was looking for a replacement and certain numbers say they got to match but Can I just stick in any 3.73 ratio axle from the same year? I found a descent deal on one out of an 02 will it fit? its a tag s138H

you sure you have 3.72? most 99 have 4.10- or 430 but if you are sure you have 373 they are in 90 of all powerstroke superdutys from the 6.0 to the 6.7 the newer axles are wider and brakes are bigger. wheels on new ones are diffrent off set.

yes 3.73 for sure even took off cover and counted and divided to make double sure. The 02 still had the 7.3 motor right so will it work I am just lost with Ford axles I have done countless swaps on chevys and jeeps and it's easy just match up gears weld in perches and go but all this different tag number crap is confusing me.

Incorrect, most of your superdutys came with 3.73's... None of the F-250 or F-350 SRW came with 4.30's...

There all a Sterling 10.5, but with different outers on them...

Look here for your code on the door A pillar... Lots of good info in that sticky thread at the top of this forum.
