I have a 2000 f350 powerstroke last fall i was pulling a trailer and over heated the trany lost some fluid, after it cooled down it had sealed back up and have not had any problems until this weekend it started again. how can i keep it from over heating???

 

Adding a bigger tranny oil cooler is a good place to start.

 

+1, more importantly, what are you hauling when the trans overheats? If it's something not very heavy then the overheating may be an indicator of something wrong inside the transmission. If it's huge/heavy then a trans cooler might be in order assuming you've ruled out low fluid levels etc.

 

Front seal on the tranny is gone. You can keep bandaiding it but at some point it will go all together.

Larger cooler and a good valve body will help alot.

 

who makes the best 'big' trans cooler for these trucks that fit well in stock location???

 

Honestly, Go to Ford and pick up a V-10 or 6.0 31 row cooler... Done and done.

 

My Dad's V10 does the same thing, only spits fluid when towing... Added a larger tranny cooler and had it flushed, did nothing but waste time and money... Like Joe said, You can only bandaid it for so long...

 

The first time it happened i was towing a camp trailer up a steep hill. mind you i do not have a temp gauge on it but that is coming soon, but if I replace the front seal and possibly get a cooler from a v10 that should work?? I do tow horses so i need to get it fixed asap

 

Most times once they start leaking they will continue, but the V-10 I puked out the front seal has been driving ever since.

Might throw a cooler and a temp gauge on there and see what happens. Front seal is going to run you about $6-700 installed.

 

would it be easier for me to do the seal myself
