Turbo Options

i was looking into getting a 38r but if it possible to rebuild the original turbo and its cheaper then i might go that route. can a stock 7.3 turbo be rebuilt? if so, is it worth doing?

It can be rebuilt. What are your plans for the truck?

:iws:

Need to figure out what your plans are... The stocker is good for about 300hp, anymore then that and its time to step up.

Hey now, that's not very nice!

countryboy51 05-10-2011 12:03 AM

well im not planning on pulling it or makin a real big amount of power.

95powersmoker 05-10-2011 12:06 AM

If you plan on staying fairly stock, A rebuilt turbo will do you just fine. Like Joe said, stocker is only good for about 300. It will start stressing the further away from that you get.

So, Decide a horsepower goal, Decide a budget, and move forward from there.

what do you think a honest estimate for a rebuild would be? i mean i would like to upgrade to a 38r and make some more power but if a rebuild is gonna cost me alot less then im ok with with the 300hp mark.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

do i need to step up to bigger injectors or any other supporting fuel system or egine parts with the 38r or can i leave everything else alone for the time being untill i have the time and money for other upgrades? also what are some realistic boost numbers with this turbo?

There is your honest estimate... Looks to be a couple hundred bucks for the rebuild kit.

You could throw a 38r on there with stock injectors. Not to sound like a broken record, but planning your build around your turbo is kind of a backwards way to do this... Plan your build around some horsepower goals and a budget. Pick the turbo that suits those goals. Pick the injectors that best suit those goals.

right. well i would love to have a 38r and some injectors but i think im just gonna go with the rebuild. to much money for me to be puttin into to it right now. intake exhaust and chip is enough fun for me for the time being LOL. but thanks for the help and info guys. it awesome to have found such a great site with guys like you that actually know what your talking about!
