Turbo Options
i was looking into getting a 38r but if it possible to rebuild the original turbo and its cheaper then i might go that route. can a stock 7.3 turbo be rebuilt? if so, is it worth doing?

It can be rebuilt. What are your plans for the truck?

:iws:
Need to figure out what your plans are... The stocker is good for about 300hp, anymore then that and its time to step up. |
Interested in your plans but here are some links to consider while you decide.

well im not planning on pulling it or makin a real big amount of power.
|
If you plan on staying fairly stock, A rebuilt turbo will do you just fine. Like Joe said, stocker is only good for about 300. It will start stressing the further away from that you get.
So, Decide a horsepower goal, Decide a budget, and move forward from there. |
what do you think a honest estimate for a rebuild would be? i mean i would like to upgrade to a 38r and make some more power but if a rebuild is gonna cost me alot less then im ok with with the 300hp mark.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- do i need to step up to bigger injectors or any other supporting fuel system or egine parts with the 38r or can i leave everything else alone for the time being untill i have the time and money for other upgrades? also what are some realistic boost numbers with this turbo? |

38R and stock injectors is a great set up. I ran that for about 50k, then stage 1's then stage 2's then Hybrids...
Stock turbo will be fine if your just going to throw a tuner/intake and exhaust on it. |
Or to make it more confusing, a van turbo is a nice option. Can easily be had for a lot less than a 38R and pulls a lot harder up top. Mine was great with my stock injectors. Its even better with the Stage Is. I would not run one on stock injectors without tunes but with a chip its great.

i already have boost, tranny, egt, and hpop gauges. and yeah ive heard about van turbos. i dont really know where to look for one tho. how much of a power difference does the 38r make?

Whats the differance between a van turbo and one that in our trucks?

Lower drive pressures, lower EGT's and lower boost levels... Meaning less stress on the turbo, and more HP |
I just replaced my Turbo with a 38R, my stocker has only 127,000 miles on it...
Just a suggestion, I'll make you a good deal on my stock turbo and you pay shipping. |
