Powersteering pump would not cause a change in how it steers, not as far as a jerking motion...

I would look at ball joints and steering linkages.

valve problems in the steering box is also a possibility

Thanks for the reply. When i'm parked the steering wheel turns easliy. When i start driving the steering will gets slightly stiff and will jerk left then right a couple of times then stop. It sounds like my powersteering pump makes a loud whinning noise when this happens. i checked the levels and it was fine. so you think its the steering box valves. are they easily to change or should i say is the steering box easily changed.

The hardest part of changing the steering box is getting the pitman arm loose from the shaft. Some auto parts stores have a tool rental program and with the right puller it is not too bad.

every time i've tried using the auto parts stores' puller tool. it doesn't fit. i end up with 2 buddies, 4 pry bars, and ripping the vice off of the bench, and a lake of fluid on the floor.

i always thought that if the pump was low or bad it would wine really bad but mine dosnt. u said ur truck jerks to the left and right while driving. is it a rapid jerk left n right that happens randomly then stops when u slow down? or does it do it all the time

Well the truck randomly does it. its not all the time. It will do it one or two times when i get started driving and then stop. It sounds compicated but im sure its the pump or box. I changed the ball joints 1 year ago and there is no play in the linkage or wheel. Like you said the pump makes a louder noise than usual when this happens.
