Default PMR's? EGT's?

I have PMR's and was wondering what brand would be the best to replace them with down the road my HP goal is 500ish unless I do an engine swap. But best ones? And I suppose the whole engine would need to be pulled there's no easy way out?
Oh and what's the highest EGT's these engines should see for just a second?

PMR's... If your goal is 500hp, then just some worked over stock rods. Have them cryo'ed and shot peened, magnafluxed and throw them in. Yes, the motor has to be pulled, and I would do a mild rebuild at that point with new pistons, rings, bearings and such, just for good measure.

EGT's... For just a second... 2000* or more...

Its more about the temp of the metal, not the EGT's. EGT stands for Exhaust Gas Temp, not piston temp.

International says 1250* sustained is the max EGT, that is sustained, meaning you could pull 1250* all day and not hurt a thing.

IMHO I will run for hours at 1200* and not worry about a thing other then my MPG. Here is an example for you...

Your running empty cruising at 600* EGT, meaning your piston temp is more then likely below 400*... You go to pass someone up a big hill and you hit 1800* for 30 seconds... Its going to take a long time for the METAL temp of the piston to reach the danger point of 1250*, keeping in mind you also have piston cooling jets spraying the bottom of the pistons.

Now pretend your pulling a 12k load, cruising at 1050*... Same hill, same pass...

Its going to take a lot less time for the metal temp to reach that same danger point of 1250*...

Understand?

Thank u alot I knew what EGT's stood for but didn't think about the diff between that temp and the one of the piston it's self
So just get stock forged rods and have everything done to them? The motor has been redone once would it hurt to do it again whenever I have the money to do it or at that point re-ring it? It's only got 20,000ish now and it will probably be a few years till I can do the rods and start my build to 500

If the motor was just done I would just throw the rods in there with fresh (matched) bearings...
