My 99 7.3 has a problem when it kicks into its high idle mode when it's been started in cold weather. It idles smooth but once the high idle comes on to warm up the truck a very loud sucking noise can be heard coming from the exhaust. However the second you touch the accel pedal and the high idle mode kicks off so does the noise.

Any ideas?

 

I think its the EBV Valve on the turbo pedestal that causes that noise when it closes to help warm it up faster. My buddies used to do that till we got ride of the factory pedestal. But I could be wrong

 

ya thats what its supposed to do.

 

yeah bud no worries, its just a little flapper that closes to help it warm up faster, no biggie

 

my cousins does the same thing sounds like a damn hair dryer in the exhaust
