Did you replace the correct relay? Are you testing the correct relay?
There are two there... One for the intake air heater, and one for the glow plugs. OOooo! Now this is interesting. Can someone post a pic of this relay board, or whatever you call it? I am having cold start problems too. I would gladly replace both relays if I knew what to look for. Mine starts great in the warm weather, but sucks in the cold. I also get plenty of white smoke when cranking too. THANKS!!:tu: |
just look on top of the motor on the passenger side, you will see 2 relays, they look just like ford starter solenoid, i BELIEVE the one you want to change is the rear (i could be wrong tho), and make sure you get the glow plug relay or you could burn your computer up,

I would gladly replace the GPCM if I could verify it's malfunction. Ideas? |
Glow plug light means squat, its an idiot light...
You can not hear the intake air heater, more then likely you are hearing a vacumn pump, and the intake air heater has nothing to do with cold starts, infact it does not even come on during cold starts. What are you using to look for codes? If your GPCM is out, you will have a code for it. |
I have a generic SES scanner just to read codes I bought at Pep Boys. It clears my PO238 I get when in over boost, but that's another story.
Really? about the glow plug light? I have seen that stay on once in a while too, until I key off and re start. That's rare though. As for the whooosh, what is that then????? Wouldn't that be the best time for that heater to come on -- cold starts??? I am really confused now.:humm: |

There is also the Staycor, which is a tough SOB but about $100 bucks.
