Default High Pressure Oil pump

Could some one tell me the procedure for checking the hpop,can you measure oil pressure? the oil reservoir housing is about 1" from the top, the truck has long crank times(sometimes) it's cold here today truck started right up ran for 2 minutes I shut it off then long crank time 5 or 6 seconds started and ran like crap for 30 seconds then straighted out Icp #'s seem lazy during long cranking. Should Icp pressure hold for a little while or drop right off when truck is shut off.

I just had the pressure measured on my hpop by using a software called Auto Enginuity I'm new to the diesel world and don't want to say to much, but with this it was really easy to find my problems. (noticed you have a chevy don't know if this is the truck your working on , if it is don't settle on my advice I have a ford and is my only experience.

ON the 6.0 psd, the ICP sensors have been causing problems. Ford moved the location to make it easier to get to since you were reaching behind the turbo. I would say try checking the sensor first. Good luck, HPOP is a big job to replace. Look up powerstrokehelp on you tube. The guy has alot of great informations, and i drive a dodge.

when diagnoseing the ICP we unpluged the ICP sensor by doing this it sends a default signal to the pcm reading 2200 psi and will allow the injectors to do the initial fire. all the ICP sensor needs to read is 400 psi for this to happen. what I am thinking is if you try this and it fires right away this might lead you to a faulty ICP. Also the guy that showed me this I believe said that it will hold pressure at all times (I think 100 or 200 psi) mine was bleeding off and going down to "0" found that one of my injectors was stuck open (this causes a no start issue)

it could be your icp going bad, unplug the icp and see if there is oil in the plug, if there is thats a good sign its bad, and if the hpop oil is bout an inch from top it is correct,

There is NO reason EVER to change your HPO... If you want to change your HPO then just go to WOT (Wide Open Throttle) one time and bang... HPO is changed.

That guy on powerstrokehelp is completely wrong on about 99% of what he says. He really is clueless.

he maybe clueless but I have perosonally changed the oil in 5 HPOPs and each one had what looked like tar when I pumped it out, on the next oil change I only pumped it it out once and oil looked new, does it help?? it sure can't hurt when these engines depend so much on clean oil to the injectors, if you haven't done this I suggest you try it because the way it was designed by ford sucks.

First off...

It was not designed by Ford, it was designed by International...

Second, it is not a closed loop system...



If it makes you feel good to do it, by all means go for it. It is completely unnecessary.

The oil in the reservoir is constantly changed out, be it over the overflow or thru the injectors and back to the pan...
