Default How Tough Are The Tranny And Xcase?

I got a buddy who's gonna be puttin a cummins in his 99 powerstroke pretty soon, but he's worried the 6 speed and transfer case wont hold up cuz hes gonna modify it. I say that fords are built beefier than dodges and the stock ford stuff will hold up better than stock dodge parts. So, how much HP can the drivetrains hold up to on these things?

Oh, by the way, anyone need a perfect running 7.3? Itll be complete, all computers, turbo, blah blah blah. 170k miles

the tranny's are not made by dodge nor are the transfer cases.

an NP 205 is a great t case for a stock with out spending alto of mine on a custom t-case.

does the fords still use a ZF tranny?

The ZF 5 speed used in the older F250's and F350's is a good piece, other than the POS dual mass flywheel. Replacement single mass conversion kits are available--the entire kit costs less than 60% of what a replacement dual mass flywheel costs from FoMoCo.

The newer ZF 6 speeds are a great transmission.

The older Borg Warner 1345 transfer case should hold up behind mild mods--any crazy stuff you might have issues with the chain....pretty much the same as the NV241 in the Dodges.

The newer NV272 in the Super Duty's is about as bulletproof as a chain transfer case can get...no issues for the most part.
