mad Help, carrier bearing

My 01 F250 7.3 has a carrier bearing on the left side going out. Anybody ever take one out and replace it yourself. Just did the left outers but a friend pinpointed the whine as a carrier, so I got to get my hands dirty again.
Any help will be appreciated.

i just did the one on the rear drive shaft, get a big puller and it should come off, its not too hard at all, not even that time consuming with the right tools

do you mean wheel bearing? Generally the carrier bearing most people refer to is the bearing that supports a 2 piece driveshaft.

Sorry but I've always called that the driveshaft center support bearing. The noise I'm hearing is in the rearend housing. The actual carrier bearing for the ring and pinion on the left side of the differential at where the axel enters the posi unit.
How hard is it to remove those bearings and races?

Ok I understand now.

You'll have to pull the carrier out and have the bearings pressed off. You might as well rebuild the differential while you are there. You are also going to have to set up all your gears when you put it back together. This takes time however as the gear backlash and preload is set by shims underneath the bearing races. They have to be pressed on and off everytime you make a change. Same for the pinion depth.

Thanks Kazairl, sounds a little more complicated than I figured. I guess this will be one of those "let the shop fix it" things.
Or do you have any idea where to get a book on the rearend rebuild?
