Ford Guys and Gals,

My father has a 2000 powerstroke in a F-250. I need help because he just stripped out the threads in the plug that bolts into the top of the filter head. It is the plug that you remove to mount an auxiliary oil filter. The bottom of the part is where the factory spin on filter mounts. He says it looks like the whole part can be removed from the block. I need to know what the part is actually called and if anyone has had experience with this problem. He is thinking about drilling out the head and installing a helicoil, and I'm not sure that is the best thing to do, especially if I can track down the part. I'm a cummins guy, so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks"give:

 

Maybe the oil cooler from the way you made it sound I think thats what your talking about. Could you maybe get him to send you a pic?

 

Can't you drill it and put in a heli-coil? Thats an easy fix, if you can do it...Sixpack

 

helicoil would be an easy fix if not, the whole oil cooler needs to come out, and thats can be done in a few hours, if its the same setup as on a 7.3 IDI which im pretty positive it can, all you got to do is take out the stuff thats in the way of getting to the bolts, which is powersteering pump and a few other things, then undo the bolts, undo the motor mount and jack up the one side of the motor to gain clearence to pull it out, then once its out you got to get the new head for it and have it pressed apart, while its off you might as well replace both sets of o-rings and have it cleaned, then it needs to be pressed back together perfectly lined up or it will leak, a helicoil would be much easier if you need me to walk you through it more detailed let me know ive done it when its 40 degrees out in the rain outside
