help about to give up
ok guys I have been a bow tie guy for a long time but I brought this 7.3 because all my buddys said (it won't let you down) so ok it will not cold start (not a big deal right now) but the major is it has no power it had major codes about the valve cover and inj ok so we put new valve covers on both sides and fixed the inj that was showing now it shows inj 8 is not working but the truck has no power and it puts out a mix of white and black smoke then one day BAM we have good black smoke the turbo is spooling up right and every thing so cool then later on that day right bike to the old no power mix of black and white i have just about giving up on the old 7.3 any help I will really say thanks also we checked the icp the oil pressure swich and the compreshon all the cycl had about 320 to 380 thats the only code coming up but when it is runing good black smoke it throws a check engine light saying that it is higher or lower then desired im just lost would one inj do all of that it is # 8 thanks also im in concord nc if there is any body close to me

sorry im just tired of chaseing it. But that is the only code now inj 8 and when the truck runs really good the icp code higher/lower. The truck is stock but has a pipe on it but im not sure what they guy before me had on it all of my friends think it is the hpop because when you have it on the computer diveing down the road it does not get over 3000 psi untill you let off the gas other wise it stays around 1900 to 2450 concord nc close to the mall. Yes the valve covers have been done

You installed a new injector? I assume you used new o rings?

this does not sound like an hpop issue at all. when the truck runs good you have good power as well? my guess is a loose connection somewhere.. if you have an oil issue its constant ive never seen a hpo issue that came and went... can you run a buzz test? buzz them out and see what number 8 sounds like if anything..

Great... In order to install the IPR you have to remove the backing nut... then install the IPR, the electronic controler and the backing nut...
Make sure the backing nut it tight.
If not it will allow the control part of the IPR to move back and forth on the stud, causing what you are talking about. Not saying this is IT but its another piece of the puzzle.
Pull the valve covers, check all the connections to all injectors, the wire harness the UVC harness and the main wire harness. Get some Dielectric grease and fill every one of them with it.
You have an electrical issue somewhere.
