Default IDM

I got a friend that needs some help. Its an 01 7.3 stock. Truck wont start and it has a code. I dont have number but he said that the scanner said Faulty IDM. is this common on these 7.3's?. I guess i didnt realize that they were 880 dollars from Ford. and 1450 dollars from International. He said when you crank the truck it will hit and miss but no fire. only code was for the IDM,

I think the code will be 1376 (could be wrong)
anyhow, friend of mine had same problem, I researched it, by the code # on here (use search box.
Anyhow, search said 99.9% of the time it's a loose or corroded connection where the wiring harness goes thru the valve cover gasket (also search "UVC" for under valve cover harness) and that's what his was. farm fixed it, zip ties and permatex, worked fine ever since

BE CAREFUL- the harness with the RED spiral tape on it goes to the injectors and it's 115v DC. it will mess you up if you probe it or grab it while it's live!!

Yes. truck ran rough. then threw a code. if i remember right it was P1297 if thats the faulty IDM code. ( i cant remember ) , when he shut it off it never re-started. It will crank and hit and miss, but never starts

Maybe the under valve cover harness that Colotow was talking about is possible loose? Thats alot more common than an idm ive never heard of an idm failing.
