Default Starting Problems

Hello Again!

Well Here's my problem. It happened once a month ago and now it did it last night and this morning. When i go to start it, it starts to crank and sounds normal but after like a second or two it keeps cranking but now it sounds like there is no fuel... like a fast higher pitched cranking. And i turn the key off and then try to start it again and it does the same thing over and over again for about 7 mins of on and off key turning and then it will finally start. My dad said one of his company trucks did the same thing and thought it was some kind of saftey sensor... like being in gear or something like that. Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks, Ryan

X2 on the oil and then, I would check the glow plug circuit the wiring harnesses through the valve cover gaskets and the harnesses under that go to the glowplugs and the glow plugs themselves. But first make sure the oil is full. How long since last oil change? The oil can breakdown and cause problems too.

Remove the plug at the top of the HPO res in the morning before you try and crank on it... There should be oil about 3/8-1/2" down from the top...

Sounds like a HPO system issue.

Can you read codes?

I can read codes. But im pretty sure its a glowplug issue. If i plug it in at night it fires right up in the morning.... so im gonna keep plugging it in till I have enough to do glowplugs and injectors

Even with several bad GP's it should still start... I would check the relay... You can get a GPR-109 from napa for about $35 bucks.

Well so far nothing. I put a new relay in it first thing when it wouldnt start but that didnt help. and like i said if i plug it in it starts fine so ive been lazy about replacing glowplugs because im trying to save up enough to do injectors at the same time. so as soon as i get a chance to dive deeper into it i'll let you know
