Default better turbo

my 99 psd has 347k on it and the turbo is wooped. the compressor fins are warn very badly from dirt particals and stuff. i was thinking of upgrading the whole turbo rather than just changing the compressor wheel. i read somewhere that the hx35 was a good upgrade. is this true? and how much fabrication will the install entail? and how much better is it than my stock turbo. thanks

ummmmm no! The hx35 is a bit smaller.

If you want a drop in charger you are going to have to use a Garret 38R. Its ball bearing and a little pricey. I would think that it would be a little large for a truck with no real mods but thats just me.

Anything else will require the frabrication of a new pedastal and intake and exhaust connections probably.

There are really no cheap options here. If your not going to bomb it repair your old one. and get a better air cleaner.

well i plan on doing more mods so i just figured since i had to take it off anyway, it would be easier to upgrade now. and i have no problem with fabricating new mounts and connections. do you know of a compressor wheel and housing upgrade offered for these? thanks

Garret 38r. Only bolt in turbo that's worth a crap.

The GTP38(stock turbo) really doesn't have much for useful upgrades. Your better off going with an H2e HX55 K31 S300 S400 Garret 38r 40r 42r 45r. Depends on your power goals and how much your willing to spend. Like I said the 38R is the ONLY drop in upgrade. The rest will need new pedestals fabbed up as well as new connections for the air in and out.

There are other drop ins. But you're right, the 38R is the only drop in upgrade .

Yawn...

I ran a 38r, 38r with a 1.15 housing...

Turbonetics BB with a .84, 1.00 and 1.15 housing...

Put down 467hp with the TN BB...

That being said you will have to build a T4 mount kit for anything other then a "drop in" turbo.

I have some pictures of the kit I built for my truck here...

H2e Turbo kit... pictures from trucks photos on webshots

You can get the idea from there...
