Moved egt probe and.......
Hey guys, as suggested by everyone here I moved my egt probe pre turbo and now I scared to death!! My truck has a tymar style air intake and an 3 1/2 in open exhaust no cat no muffler and Im running an old style (red) Diablo delta chip on the 40hp setting and I can hit 1300 deg with ease (no were near on the floor) Im setting at 500 deg setting in the driveway. I can take the chip out and still hit close to 1100 deg in stock setting. My question is what in the world is going on? Is my gauge off(how do you calibrate them), is my motor really getting this hot and if so what can i do to remedy it ? Please help this diesel stuff is all new to me! 2002 f350 7.3 4x4

I understand the gauges may be junk but is 20#boost considered low for a 7.3 I can flip the chip into the 40hp tune and floor it and the boost will get close to 25 # and the engine light in the dash comes on and I was told the computer is sensing over boost? Im confused 20# is low and 25 # is over boost ? Somebody please clarify this for me and Im getting the same conflicting info on the temp both water and egt , first im told run a 200deg thermostat and then when i say my water temp is 160-180 im told that looks rite well if thats correct on the 180deg temp then my thermostat is never opening correct? Then i get told never to exceed 1250 deg on my egts and then get told its not impractical to see 1400 from time to time. Im not stating you guys are giving me bad info Im just saying I get on here and read read read before asking and im confused ! Im a Machinist and I know materials melt at different temps but the material that melts at 1250 isnt going to sustain 1400 deg just because you onley hit it occasionally . Please dont take offense to this im just frustrated because I cant seem to find a standard baseline for myself. So if anyone can diesel dumb this down for me I will be greatfull, I was a gas burner (dodge 5.9) untill about 2mnths ago and knew the 360 from top to bottom but this dam 7.3 is kicking my ****!
