Default 99' power issue.

Mornin'

I have a 99' 7.3 with what I "think" having turbo issues... Here's the story..
Going down the interstate running perfect then engine suddenly shut down. Wouldn't start up till cooled off a tad. Started then made it a 1/4 mile. Hooked to computer and found cam position sensor fault. Changed and ran again, but not rite. It missed at idle (only on start up) and was sluggish going over hills. Hooked back to computer and no codes. Drove for a couple days then started shutting down regularly at idle and up to speed from time to time. Had to power brake while stopped to keep running then seemed to run fine under way. Hooked back to computer cleared all existing codes then pulled a P0470. Exhaust back pressure is 38 at idle.. Truck now acts like it has no boost. Feels like it's building but not releasing. Hope this makes sense..
Any help will be beyond appreciated....
Nick

If there was a turbo issue, I think you'd be seeing lots of black smoke. Sounds like its more of a HPOP (high pressure oil) issue to me. Have you watch the ICP on the scanner to see what it is doing?

deputy and i are on the same page. you need to check and see what your icp and duty cycle are. do you have a scan gauge or anything similar?

Ok... I cleared the existing code then drove again. Zero black smoke but ran like turbo was kicking in too soon and was surging pretty bad. Opposite from last.. It would get sluggish then take off with boost then get sluggish again. Kinda like the way my ol' lady cleans the house.... Crazy!!
Anyway, Ran another scan and got same code P0470. While running the self test i think during the wastegate opening part it fell on its face and threw a P1284. ICP fault aborts koer cct test.

You have a HPOP issue not a turbo issue. Check your ICP pressure, Duty cycle and such...
