As far as gauges go, I am not a big fan of the Glowshift... Most of the gauges they have are not geared to the diesel trucks and the applications are not correct...


If you have not ordered yet, check out the Isspro EV-2 line... Some of the best gauges on the market. The Isspro Performax is what I run, but they are a bit more money, but include more options.

Boost... No reason to go more then a 35# or 40# gauge... You want the lowest boost gauge that will work so you have a more accurate reading. Isspro makes 30#, 40# and 60# gauges, but if your in a early 99, there is no reason to go more then a 30 or 40# gauge. Depending on elevation, stock you will see 15-20psi, with a hot chip 25-30psi. The stock turbo is not rated for more then 25#, so anything more then that your just pushing hot air and not helping performance in the long run. Not to mention its hard on the bearings.

Tranny... 100-280 is more then enough, Normal driving you should see 60-80 over outside air temp. If you get above 225-230 its time to add more cooling ability. If you are pulling and see 230+ you need to pull over and put the truck in N, idle until it cools down. DO NOT SHUT IT DOWN.

Pyro... 0-1600 is all you really need. There is no need for a 2400* egt gauge. You will NEVER see that temp on a stock injectored truck, and will not see it for long otherwise. Normal crusing temps will be 600-800 degrees, stock tuning will never see more then 1200... A hot chip can push you to 1400 if your really pushing hard or pulling. International (who makes the motor) says 1250* red line is fine. You can drive all day at 1250 and not hurt a thing, anything over that you risk melting the pistons. You can go over that for short periods of time, racing, pulling... How long is up to you. If you have been pulling a trailer all day at 1100, then you might feel less time is good. If you have been crusing at 600, then you have more time... Its all about heat soak.

Thanks alot I will check out other brands too. I was gonna just go with glowshist because I just bought the truck and Im poor now so they are cheap. Plus my brother runs them he says they are ok but appreciate the input will give it a thought.

 

16 gauges!?!?! And I know a couple people with Glo-Shift and they havn't had a problem with them yet. I thought they looked like a quality piece. Like you said for the price, you can't not look at them
