Default modifications

hello all, my friend has a 99 f350 with the the power stroke. all is stock except for the exhaust and there is a banks 6 gun programmer which does not seem to do a whole lot. i know that with my truck (97 cummins 12 v) there are alot of inexpensive/ free modifications that can be made that significantly increase power. is this the same with his truck? any suggestions?

I don't know about getting 'significant' power increases from inexpensive mods but the first thing I would do is to open up the air intake with an open air filter such as the 6637 filter mod sometimes called the DIY Tymer mod. There is a 10K mod that only requires a small resistor that increases the injector pressure by fooling the PCM that many do but anytime you begin to increase fueling to the engine, you need guages to monitor the EGT to keep them at a safe level otherwise creating a window in the side of the block does not fall into the category of 'inexpensive'.

They only way you will see true 'significant' power increases is by ditching the Banks junk and installing a TW or DPTuner chip then guages become an absolute necessity.

The six gun is just a fancy 10-18k mod... Junk in the PSD world. There really are not any cheap mods to get more power out, like was said above, intake, exhaust and chip will net you about 300hp to the rear wheels.
