Default OIL in my Radiator

I found a lot of oil in my radiator res. After doing some research I am sure it is the oil cooler. Most post in forums and on internet say to replace the O-rings and gaskets. As I just purchased this 2002 F350 7.3 and was told by a regular shop it had a bad oil leak. Took it to diesel shop and they said if I have oil in my water the gasket replacement would not fix it. I need to purchase a new cooler. $1200 quote to R&R and flush. The oil leak was just left over oil (not cleaned up) from a high pressure oil line that broke. So my question is can I get by with replacing the rings and gaskets or do I really need a new cooler. I bought the gasket kit and was about to pull the cooler when I talked to the diesel shop. So I stopped until I can get clarification. Thanks KB

You sure it's not injector cups? If your right I would just replace the gaskets and O-rings and if the problem reoccurs then you'll just have to do it again... So bottom line is "what's In your wallet?"
