I have a 99 7.3 and I have been having hard start issues, I got looking around and bought a shim kit for my Injectors, after installing my truck runs like a scalded ape, but check engine light comes on under acceleration/throttle at about the same time as my turbo spools up. And once I let off the throttle and the truck idles down the light shuts off. I hooked my scanner up and it had the p1316 idm code showing in the cache, as well as the buzz test showing cylinder 2 and 8 high to low side open. Does anyone have any advice for either or both problems??? Thanks for your help!

 

P1316 codes come from UVC harness backing out of valve cover gaskets. The harness end lock sags from heat & oil. Ford released a plastic tab to shim up lock but it can fall out when disassembled not knowing they are there. We came up with a field fix repair but have no pics to demonstrate. This also causes hard start cuz glow plugs do not get enough amps. Try removing valve covers to see how much connectors backed out, correct and repeat buzz test to see if resolved. No codes for IPR?
