A custom chip is alway best. But if you want a programmer, the Diablo Sport Preadator is a good option for the 7.3. It has noticeable a difference over a Superchips programming.

Let me know if I can help,
Kenny

I am not to familiar with the 7.3 engines. But i saw this thread. My cousin has a 2000 7.3 and needs a chip/tuner for hauling. She hauls a horse trailer with two horses in it at most. And will be driving out west alot. So i want to get her something that's EGT and stock auto friendly and fairly cheap too.. Any suggestions guys?

Because Most Manufactors Don't Reccomend Towing Under The High Performance Mode... I Would Also Recomend The pos Chip To Skip The Whole Upload Downtime.

With a pos chip. You have to remove the ecu to install correct? And a downloader just plugs into the data port correct? I would like what ever is cheaper and don't want here to tear her truck up. 18 year old girl and she gets wild. I would hate for her to turn it all the way and have problems when she is over 1500-2000 miles away from home.

i would suggest an edge evolution programmer for her, ive tryed 95% of all programers out there and it was the best all a round. but if you want a custom pos chip i would suggest a wildman chip, tell him wat you want and he does it.

Ditto - and I think you can actually get some custome tunes loaded on the Evo now ... but for the price, you can't go wrong with a custom chip - just get a few (4) instead of all (6 [for Tony Wildman] - up to 15 I think with a DP) and don't let her get the extreme tune on it..

i'm currently running stock, light tow, heavy tow, and daily... no extreme here until the ole truck is ready

Like was mentioned above, DP and Tony Wildman are both good chips. I know a lot of people that run Jody's (DP Tuner) and love them. I've got the DP F5 in my truck right now and it is awesome. If you are running sticks and a turbo, then live tuning is the way to go when he is in your area. He can really work some magic with his tuning.

Jody has tunes for just about everything on a stock truck. Right now I'm running:

No Start (built in alarm system, put the chip in postion 0 and pull the switch, makes it impossible to start the truck!)
Stock
60HP Tow
Deceleration Tune (opens up turbo and keeps the TC locked to slow you down pullin loads)
80HP Tow
80 Econo
120 Race
Drive-Thru Tune (pulls a lot of fuel away from the injectors and really quites the truck down for goin through fast food places)

Interesting. I like the features that has. I will check into that for sure.

Tony has all those tunes also, accept the drive-thru one, and possibly the deceleration tune... but his tow tunes automatically slow you down when you reach a certain MPH while stopping, so not sure why you would need to waste another position for just a deceleration tune.... ??
