Powerstroke explenation.
I was wondering how would the power stroke be better at starting cold, as far as electronics go insted of mechanical systems? My 1990 will start up before I can even think to let off the key, only has 95k miles. My grandpa's 1999 F-250 SD has the same miles but numorous troubles cold starting. The glow plugs are what I'm thinking is wrong. But I was wondering how they think electronics are better in this case.
History:
Replaced cam sensor (recall)
Clean good fuel
Good fuel, oil pressure
Cold start problem over 12 uyears.

I was thinking glow plugs or relay to, and I was saying why not have the setup, like an older IDI diesel but try to have Fuel injection, where the GPs and injectors are on top but without all the electronic crap. Cause I dont get why they in my opinion ruined a good engine by putting electronics on it. Ya know what I mean guys? May I ask how hard would it be for designers to sid down and design an engine with the layout of the IDI but with turbo and EFI?

I'm just confused by all the electronics and it makes it hard for me to figure out where im starting at to fix it, but after thinkin on it for a while I figured my problem is a very easy to find and fix. See any engines with PCMs and HPOP is a foreign lanugage but I'm getting used to it the more I'm around the truck.

Yea I'd say grandpa's truck has an issue and yours dosn't, I don't think the fact that his does and yours dosn't has to do with the electronics it's just coincidence, could be the other way around. I'm not a PS mechanic but I'd bet if you do some reading in the PS section you can figure out your problem.

I done some reading and I found out this is a fairly common problem with the 94.5-99+. I think the reason glow plugs burn out is because they're being turned on every single time the truck starts. I also read on there that there is two small terminal on the relay, can I put one wire on the termial and run one from my switch to ground? They'll still hooked up I'll just have a button in the cab. Or would that mess the PCM up? I think the simplest thing to do is replace it like it should be, but I was just lookin for a response to this.
