Default Strange and Confussed

Hey guys. First off you guys are my favorite diagnostic readers and always a great help. Second, I bought this truck in July and its my first diesel. I really dont know anything about diesels but have learned a lot due to and issue with my injectors that a friend and myself successfully installed (took great pleasure in that little feat). So, please cut me some slack if my vocabulary is off and if my information is wrong. Any information I have is coming from searches on the internet and my Haynes Manual.

Problem....My truck seems to gasp for fuel on occasion. It doesnt happen very often. It happened after I changed my injectors and we reseated them successfully the second time around. I changed my fuel filter, which was horrible due to bad fuel, and the issue stopped for about three of four weeks. Drove it around put about 1,000 miles on it. Today, everything was normal, went to the gas station, put in some injector additive, put in fuel, about five minutes later the problem showed up again out of nowhere. Its like the truck dies in mid power and just completely stalls out for a half a second. Then everything is fine again. Pulled up to a stop light and before I was completely stopped the truck died. Very slightly hard to start but other than about two extra seconds it started fine. Kept driving and it continued to cut out but wouldnt completely die.

Since I had bad fuel Im gonna drive this tank a little lower and drop the tank. Clean it out and the filter thats in it. I dont know if this will solve the problem but I do know that the fuel filter is fine. Please help.

One more issue.....Have a vibration that sometimes gets pretty rough between 40-55 mph. Going faster it doesnt do it. Go slower it doesnt (really) do it. It pretty much only vibrates in 4th gear and only when accelerating. If i let off the pedal the vibrations cease. Also I can hammer down while the vibrations are occuring and it goes away. Also, I can shift into overdrive while its vibrating and it will go away....Please help with this too

Thanks fellas you guys really know your stuff

i'd check u joints on the vibration. if towing, it would really do it bad taking off from a dead stop. mine did bout the same thing.

i personally have only towed with it once or twice but like I said ive actually only drove the truck about 4 weeks since Ive had it due to maintenance...any idea about the stall out thing...still thinking its junk in the gas tank and the filter is getting clogged.

Sounds like a HPO issue, not a fuel issue.

Because the fuel pump does one thing, lifts fuel from the tank to the injectors... High Pressure Oil is what injects that fuel into the cylinders.

Your truck will run fine, you would not even notice the power loss, at pressures from 20psi to 70 psi...

Your truck will idle fine at 0psi fuel pressure, if there is enough suction is the system to pull it thru a dead pump...

UPDATE: took it to have the service light read. Showed up Cam and Injector Driver Module....replaced the CPS from Ford. Can get it to start and idles hard. In park, give it a little fuel and can only reach rpms of maybe 1400. Is this the IDM or like CSIPSD said the hpop?? Just confused and where to go.

Without a scanner to watch ICP pressures and duty cycle it could be anything.

But now that its running your issue sounds like a low pressure fuel pump. Have to check the pressure at the filter. You can do that with a cheap water pressure gauge from Home Depot and then come off the bowl drain line.
