Default Starter

I have a silly question. Is a starter in a truck with an auto tranny different the a starter in a truck with a 5-speed? I just swapped motors, from an auto truck to a 5 speed truck. The same starter was on the motor in both trucks. When I turn the key the starter spins but the bendix dosent move to the fly wheel. The bendix isn't hitting the flywheel, it's just not coming out. Any help is apericated. Thanks

There is a spacer between the motor and the trans on the auto. There is also on one the manuals... The manuals are much thiner.

However the fact that they use the same starter remains.
