Default Wierd Random Issue

I just got my 97 powerstroke up and running yesterday. It had been sitting for about a year and needed a new flywheel and clutch. I put everything in and hooked up with two new batteries, a new glow plug relay, new clutch kit and single mass flywheel. I have the ZF5 transmission. I got it started and it started running like it had never sat. The vacuum pump makes a squeek-pop sound and then I have a idler pully that needs replacing as well. Other than that, it idles very strong. However, I found that when I run about 1700 rpms consistently ( approx 60mph in fifth gear) or if Im in 3rd gear about 1700 rpm, that the check engine light comes on and it runs really weird. If i let off the gas, or push in the clutch, the rpms die down and then the check engine light goes off and it runs fine. I can go right up to 1700 rpms or so and it runs fine for a long while. This issue just shows up randomly. But it seems to happen around 1700 rpm. I dont know what it is. A buddy said that it sounds like the truck is running out of fuel, but I had two full tanks. I did not drain the old diesel out before starting it, but added an additive that is supposed to clean out the gum and make the diesel "reconditioned" It was a cetane booster from Oreilly's auto parts. The engine has new oil and the transmission and transfer case has fresh ATF in it. My air filter is clean and the fuel filter seems to be clean. I have no idea what is causing this issue, but it is completely random. Any help would be appreciated.

When your check engine light comes on, it stores a code. Read your codes.

Find a scanner that will read powerstroke codes and get the code... This will tell the tale and we can go from there. Otherwise you are just shooting in the dark...

The engine misses and no power. Acts like it is stalling out.. The check engine light comes on. Once I push the clutch in, and the rpms go down, then the check engine light turns off and the engine runs normally.

I will get a code reader and see if I can pull any codes. This is just random. It has run fine today with no issues whatsoever.

That code is worth it's weight in gold. Make sure it's a scanner that can read Powerstrokes. The parts store scanners usually don't do the job. A superchips or something like that will read DTC's...

An update. I checked the code when I got the error last. There were no codes found. After checking for the code, I have not had the problem happen again. I have run through two full tanks, all the way to E. I have no clue what was happening, however, I think that it worked itself out, and was a result of the truck sitting for almost a year without being run. I have run through 2 full tanks since getting the truck running again. It is running well, and im getting 17 to 19 mpg out of it. I still need to put glow plugs in and stacks with a 3" downpipe. That will happen in the next month or two (hopeuflly). Thanks for all your help. I just knew what exactly the issue was.

sounds like maybe a loose or dirty wiring harness plug, or connector. The 1700 rpm might have been the right vibration to cause a poor connection? These powerstrokes are funny like that.
