Default Injectors

Hey guys i've been thinking about putting some injectors in my truck. I think mine are going bad (rough idle, crackling noise at times). So instead of getting stock ones I've been looking at the baby swamps single shot 150/146/A tow mild street injectors. i have a cali truck with AB injectors. will my truck run these injectors? is there going to be an increase in power, or am i going to be disappointed after running split shots for so long. should i just get the more expensive S/175/30% split shot injectors. I'm not looking to spend much money just wondering what you would get and which one is better for the money. thanks

well you WILL need special tuning to run them since you'd be moving to single shots. i would get the S/175/30%. the 150's aren't much over what you already have. how does your fuel filter look? try changing that. also, you might have a pre screen on the drivers side of the fuel bowl. it's about the size of a half roll of quarters. check that.

Alrighty thanks, i put a new fuel filter in about 3k ago but i'll check it and i'll see if i have the pre screen. What about the BB fuel pressure trick. Would that help? Maybe my fuel pressure is fluctuating or something.

yeah i thought the same thing about my fuel filter. 1,000 miles and it was black. check the fuel pressure first at the schrader valve. if it's around 65 psi at idle then don't worry about it. you might have the pre screen but i can't remember, i know my 94 does but i can't remember if my moms 97 has it or not.

Okay, just checked fuel filter, and it does look a little dirty for just being replaced. some dark spots in some areas. When i get the truck running again on Monday i will try to check the fuel pressure. Oh, the truck basically only makes the most rough idle and popping/crackling noise when i'm really playing with it hard around town and what not. It does it more in drive if im stopped at a stop light but if i put it in park it seems to lighten up a bit.

how many miles are on it? i doubt it being a cali model makes a difference. have you put a gauge on the oil rail? you could test that to make sure the HPOP is up to snuff.

232,000 you mean putting a tire gauge to see what the pressure is? at idle?

HPOP could be getting weak. no i mean a 10,000 psi liquid filled gauge on the oil rail to see what pressure your HPOP is putting out. swamps diesel has a great write up on how to build the gauge. for around 50 bucks
