Ford Powerstroke Fuel Mileage
Can you guys tell me what the best gas mileage you've all had running these powerstrokes? I'm going to be doing a lot of commuting and am looking to buy one, have my eye on a 97 quad cab. What kinda gas mileage will this thing come with stock? How easy are they to significantly improve mileage. I'm reading the thread about the article about the 2000 f350. would this be possible on the 94-97 gen rigs? Thanks!

Re: Ford Powerstroke Gas Mileage
In my 97 4x4 ex cab lb I avg 15 city - 20 highway (if i m ez on it which dont happen often) I also run 285's. If u were to get a 2 wd manual it could b done.
If mileage is ur concern save ur money and buy a cheap beater car. A VW tdi can get as much as 50mpg
sent from my rooted Evo cm7

I need a pick up for a daily driver for my business so mileage isnt THAT big of a deal. I just want the best mileage for a pickup truck. I wonder if I would be better off with a dodge 5.9 1/2 ton? I was just reading the forums and if I can get 26-30mpg I'd take it!
I'm assuming that dodge getting 30mpg is a manual trans?

My buddies 5.9 1/2 ton is nowhere close to where you stated...
What do you need a pickup for? Do you need a 3/4 or 1ton truck?

My 6" lifted, 33" tires automatic f250 gets about 18mpg w/ 50/50 city/highway and having a LOT of fun with it, averages 18mpg. If I were to do 100% highway, I'd probably hit 20-21mpg. If I keep my truck offroad in the fields or mud, pulling people out and having fun, I'll average 16-ish mpg for the tank. My 2000 f250 6spd got about 21mpg city, but I never drove a straight highway tank so I dunno. My POS '97 12v dually got 16mpg no matter WHAT. But most people in their 12v 5spds get 23-26mpg highway.

what kind of shape is it in? Good fresh oil, trans oil, front and rear end oil have a huge impact on mileage my bet is it is in rough shape and has been neglected.
Didnt put the 360 being a 5.9 in a half ton together.. my bad
