You only get 51mpg in your tdi?! I get 50-52mpg city in my Jetta and 63-64mpg going 55mph on the highway! Granted, the Jetta is more aerodynamic than the Golf, but not that much to cause such a disparity. Start modding. Now.

She isn't stock stock, vnt17, straight piped, I have the front mount Hung but not plumbed, stock ic is cracked and bleeding boost but still getting 12psi with a 15psi spike, euro intake to be installed when I plumb the front mount, 4bar sensor that I got with the car if I decide to install it. Just missing time, she is my dd so downtime is an Issue, its a 2000 also, the pd's of today get better mileage.

Careful you dont overspeed your turbo having that IC leak... doesn't take much at all to snap a shaft or rail a compressor backplate. You have an ALH which gets much better mileage than the PD's do.

i was under the impression the pds get better mileage, and i'm not worried about blowing the turbo, whats a better reason then that to upgrade it all....lol. i have thought about driving at 55mph to see what mileage i get but up here in the frozen north the limit is 65mph and no one does under that. i hate to see the billy big riggers riding my ass in my little golf..

whats all don't to your tdi..... a little thread hijacking never hurt anyone right....lol

No pd's get worse mileage. I drive 7mph over the speedlimit and consistently get 57/58mpg.

I have a bigger turbo, fmic, lift pump, dp, exh, p&p head, clutch, egr/cooler delete, stg 3 tuning, yadda yadda. It puts down some numbers. IQ is unknown (not monitored), vnt is WAY out of adjustment, and the car needs a retune for the larger turbo. Oh, and I need a 3bar map hehe

To jump on this hijacking, is that the old diesel Jetta's, or the new ones? 50+ mpg, I may just be gettin a new car:tu:

Mines a 2000 and the other guys is a 2000. The newer common-rail cars touch around 45mpg highway stock... though with mods I'm sure they could hit just as high as my car (and of course, deleting all the emissions stuff..). But the 90's diesel VW's get 50+mpg also.. the passats are the way to get with the 90's diesels.

Thanks, I'm definitely gonna keep my eye out for one now. My truck's 20mpg doesnt even approach that. Hows the acceleration on those things?

Stock it's alright... modded, fast. I burn brand new mustang and camaro v6's, 2000's mustang gt's, hung in with a m-package 135i (twin turbo 330hp and 380ft/lbs tq in a car that weighs the same as mine). All on 16psi untuned. My turbo can handle 30psi.

I just picked up a 95 Extra cab, 4x4, auto, and so far I've got 16 and 17 mpg on the first 2 tanks. Lots of hills and some towing, no straight highway stuff....
