The guy who rebuilt my transmission has been a master Ford Tech for over 20 years and Diesels are his specialty. He told me that stock trans cooler that Ford used caused numerous break downs due to over heating. If your not finding a ton of metal in the trans when you pull the pan, I would highly suggest you upgrade to a larger cooler.
Right now I am waiting to get my fan powered trans cooler (have to recover the bank account after the trans rebuild) to add to my transmission. I upgraded the to the biggest cooler I could find when I had the tranny rebuilt, and yesterday in 90 degree temp pulling 8000# I only heated up to 160 but I still want a back up fan cooler.

That sounds a lot better, you have to be really careful on to good to be true deals, especially when you are protecting a investment like a diesel which I am learning they can be expensive. But you get what you pay for and if your going to do it, do it right the first time. Good luck, also I would see if you have any metal in the pan and if you have a lot you might want to change the fluid and flush the tranny lines before you install the new cooler.
