Default 97 f-250 has no drive gear only 1st and reverse

so hears a brain teaser. i have absolutly no idea what is going on with my powerstroke. went out side to hop in my truck after getting my hair cut and when i put the gear shift in drive nothing happend. after finagling with it i realized when i put it in 1 manualy it will go into gear and it feels good(no slipping seems normal) and also reverse works just fine. i just replaced the mpls or nutral safty switch depending on what neck of the woods your in and still nothing. i realy need help on this one!! just bought the truck havent even had it a week any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Have you checked your tranny fluid to make sure its up to level? And if that up to level and its still doing nothing it could need the trans filter replaced cause your current one could be clogged and stopping it from shifting!

well suoposedly the transmission was serviced just before i bout it. and yes the tranny fluid level and condition is all good. the thing that tickles me is that i drove it home 350 miles with not even a hickup when i bout it and one day i go to leave a buddies house and only will go into manual 1st and reverse.

it could be the shift linkage. on the tranny end. mine broke and you really had to screw with it. have some one look at it while you move the shifter. if the cable tries to make a loop then it's broke. it's about an 809 dollar part...

80 dollar part. not 809

ok thanks ill try it and let everyone know how it turns out. i was wondering if it could possibly be a selanoid pack in the tranny. a shift linkage just seems to simple. ha but i will check into it
