Default 7.3L Engine Life For a Buyer??

I am looking at buying a PS 7.3L, but the magic number of miles I see is 250,000 on the engines. Most trucks I am looking at have that many mile. I know to check for blow by, dead cylinders, And NO GOOSENECK HITCHES, but want to know what the life of the average 7.3L is?

I have one with 365,*** miles on it , I pull hot shot loads and a 36 ft stock trailer . Just put new injectors , glow plugs, and clutch . A buddy of mine just retiered his 99 with over 500,000 miles , the secret is you take care of it and they will take care of you . dont be afraid of the 5th wheel be afraid of the ones with big chips and no upgrades to handle the extra fuel and much needed air the produce and cant get thats the killer of all diesel trucks .

Thats exactly right, it's all about how a truck is taken care of. I used to work for a company that would kill a powerstroke in 100K miles because the Service Manager was an idiot. He swore you could run on 12K oilchange intervals and on top of that he would let them get over another 3 or 4k when you told him it was due. After replacing 4 or 5 engines he talked the company owners into buyin V10's because the diesels were to expensive to maintain. They were good for about 5mpg loaded

Default 96 F-250

I just lost my 96 F-250 w/669,888...to do new or rebuilt injectors and do the lower end was not worth the money...how far will they go? If had done the above mentioned work last winter, I'm sure I'd still be driving down the road. I just found one on the computer 1997 w/47,000 original miles! So keep looking! In my travels I have seen a few with 600,000+ and they were in good shape! Good Luck...but get a manuel Transmission thats the key!

oil changes are key the hpops and injectors destroy the oil i pushed mine beyond 4,000 and i paid heavily for it in parts and labor and about 75 psi off my compression DO NOT PUSH OIL changes out on dino oil unless you want a dead engine
