Default 96 running rough

Hey guys a buddy has a 96 7.3. It will start and it will idle at about 500 rpm. If you put the pedal to the floor it wont go over 2k rpm there is just no *****. No white smoke or any smoke at all out of the pipe. Oil recently changed. Has good fuel in it. HPOP resevoir is full. Fuel filter isnt the best but it still doesnt run right with no filter in it at all. I unplugged the icp to reset it. Check engine light is on but I dont have access to a good scanner. Anybody got any ideas?

definitely a fuel delivery problem ,ECM or those pesky wires in the valve cover gaskets, make sure you are getting plenty of fuel from the fuel pump, there must be an easy way to check pressure.

We pushed the schraeder valve on the side of the bowl and it sprayed out good there in definitely pressure. I will check the under valve cover harness

when mine was having a similair problem I fired the truck up and have a friend hold at 1500 rpm and started to pull the clips off the valve cover gasket/the injector wiring harness one at a time and look for which one has the least effect on the motor if the they all (4 of them/ each plug stops 2 injectors) change the motor in the same way i dont know if i would pull off the valve covers just let

this may not be the best way but it's the way that helps me

That's the way my kiddo tested his 95 -- similar problems. Turns out that 3 of the 8 injectors make no difference when the wire is pulled and another makes just a slight difference. The good firing ones are quite noticable when pulled. I'd say he is on a max of 5 cylinders right now. It shows up when he is towing also... I buzz up hills at 75 with my Cummins 12V -- the kiddo is pulling 40 on the same hill.

I had the same problem with my 97, when the engine is cold. after it's warmed up completely it runs good. and what it was, is the valve in the exhaust pipe after the turbo. i tied the valve open with a piece of wire, and it runs good cold.
i noticed nobody specified if it was warm or cold when it happens.
