Things just got better.

Doing research and pounding Google for answers, I have discovered a few things that pertain to my project and might be good for some of y'all to know:

A 2wd E4OD/4R100 *With Driveline Park Brake* is the same trans, tail adapter and shaft as a 4wd E4OD/4R100.

A Borg Warner transfer case will bolt up in place of a drive line parking brake assembly and vice versa!

What does this mean? Glad you asked.

This Gear Vendors unit "should" theoretically, bolt up between my transmission and transfer case.

The downside would be having to have a new drive shaft made for the front since the transfer case would be moving rearward the length of the GV unit.

Plus side is not having to spend a million dollars on new adapters.

Here's the install list:

1. New front drive shaft
2. New ONE PIECE drive shaft for rear
3. Modify floor pan and trim a crossmember at rear of cab to welcome the transfer case
4. Lengthen wires for indicator lights as well as shift linkage for T-case
5. As most of you know, the transfer case in these trucks does not have its own crossmember for support, so it relies on the six bolts connecting to the trans. With the new OD unit being 13.5" long and HEAVY, I will need to make a crossmember that holds on to the transfer case via the two lowest bolts... I just hope the shaft coming out of my trans is a 32 spline...

Sound good?

I don't know how you bolt anything to the back of the GV. It's got a tailshaft output with a slip yoke.

All GV units are the same. My particular adapters I got with mine are desinged to bolt up between a transmission and a driveline park brake assembly.

Then it sounds like they have adapters for both the front and back and the ones they sell for most aftermarket applications just come with the standard slip yoke output.

Yep, you definitely got lucky on the bolt-up there. That is some kind of massive xfer case adapter that would have probably cost an arm and a leg if you had to buy it separately. Most applications they put the GV behind the xfer case and look like this, minus the extra plumbing, of course:

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Pat, if you are still around, I was curious, how do your mpg's before and after the overdrive compare? Unloaded and running empty on the hwy, did you see a significant increase lowering your RPM?

Truck has since been sold.

I recall best mileage per two full tanks being 15 mpg pre gear vendors, and 17 mpg after. both were mixed driving conditions, mostly highway. Was it worth it? No. Even though I got the unit for free, the fuel savings would've taken years. Was it fun and cool? Absolutely.

depends on what you're doing with the truck. If you pull heavy and work the truck its great. My truck was just a hobby and I did a bunch of **** to it just to say I did. I bought another new truck june 2011 and sold the 96 about 6 mos later... I had 3 trucks and the 96 was my favorite, but I only took the cover off and brought it out the circus tent to drive to work once in a while to keep the yellow tops up I do miss her.
