Default 97 f250 powerstroke fuel leak. suggestions?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

my 97 powerstroke keeps loosening the fuel filter cap and leaking fuel.ive tried 2 diffrent brands but somehow they keep coming loose. i was told it could be a fuel regulator valve, and also the fuel filter housing. any suggestions or solutions?

I had a similar problem and this seemed to stop it. And, I started getting a little better milage. Take out the filter. On the drivers side of the filter is the port to the pressure regulator. In that port is a strainer/screen that gets clogged up over time. When it is stopped up, the regulator cannot determine if there is any/enough fuel pressure. It may be causing excess pressure to back up into the filter and over pressure the filter housing. This is at least worth a try. Take Q-Tips, insert into the port and try to clean the screen as much as possible. If it is really dirty, you will have to use several Q-Tips until the Q-Tip comes out clean. I used 5 to 6 before one came back clean.
Another problem I ran into: I put the filter in and accidentally put the lid gasket in upside down. I know it doesn't seem to be possible. But, I turned it over and stopped the fuel from seeping out. At least it worked...

Good luck with your fuel leak. I've been there and it is really not fun to deal with.
Please have a great day.

THANKS!!!

If it's a good filter. It depends on how many miles are on it.
