Default 2001 Powerstroke running rough

Sorry I'm new to this site I don't know how to make a new thread. I should maybe explain this a little more. But I might have some missed spelled words or no punctuation where they should be cause I'm doing this on a phone. But the operating temp was normal it was 55 degress outside so wasn't cold. I know what your taking about the hissing sound when it's cold to warm the truck up faster. But it wasn't cold enough for that. I will take a look at what your talking about when I get home. I pulled the tralier for little over an hour and this tralier is a 14k tralier. The truck was warmed up by time I got of the interstate to get fuel. Like I said you take off the tralier it didn't do it hooked it back up and it does it again. When the traliers hooked up it will do it when you put the truck in gear and just give it a little gas check engine light comes on runs rough. Ive had similar problem before I took it in to get it fixed they said they did. I was told to leave this out and treat this as a new problem. But before I took the truck in to get fixed the truck would cut out when you got on it about 2000 rpms or little more with or without tralier. Hold it at 55 or 60 it will cut in and out sometimes and a puff of white smoke would come out. Doesn't even have to be at 55 just a constant speed or taking off. The more you drive it eventually check engine light comes on and runs rough till you shut it off and turn it back on. Or eventually quit running till you get a new idm. I got used idm's from napa I Fried three of them i don't know if they were junk or not so I put a new one on. The new idm seemed to work didn't have anymore quit but still had the same problem where you get on it an cuts in and out or runs rough with or without tralier. this was all before I took it to the shop. They shop worked on it, got it back for a month and a half and I'm having problems again. Now it only does with the tralier but thats kinda how it started out last time I feel like it gets worse the longer you drive it or should I say happens more often. I will look more Into what you said but though I would explain this more.

If the SEL light comes on (even if temporarily) you really need to retrieve those codes and see what they are. A lot of Auto parts stores will scan for free... unfortunately most of those don't have scanners that will work with a 7.3l.

One, would be to push the warranty on the old shops repair. If it's doing the same thing, it's not fixed right? But, if it were me... I would probably have lost faith that they know what they are doing and that they can fix your truck. You could use that to leverage your warranty, or... use that lesson learned to find another shop. Ask around to other PSD owner's to see who they use around your area.

I would suspect ICP, IPR or HPOP. What it sounds like you are facing is a "lack of power" condition under load. Those three areas will control/supply the fuel desired against the fuel supplied.

Basically, if the ICP is reading wrong, that will be off and give the wrong HPOP pressure to the injectors. One thing to try is unplug the ICP and see if it gets any better. That is not optimum, but it will throw the PCM into a default a default (backup) fuel mapping. If you had a scanner capable of looking at live data, you would look at the ICP cycle percentages and the HPOP pressures. The ICP sensor reads the HPOP pressures. The IPR regulates and controls those pressures. If it is sticking those pressures will be off. If the pump is worn and not supplying enough pressure, then it won't supply enough pressure for the load.

Corey.

Good talking with you. Give this to your cousin to use a reference. Read it and you can both talk the same language. It has good reference data to test from and to figure out which path to take to diagnose that:

Doesn't drain? Liek if you look on the bottom of the fuel filter reservoir... is it clean or???

If that valve where plugged with sediment... that could indicate other things plugged with sediment. You think?

Default Engine running rough

My right 4 cylinders of my 1996 7.3 are firing great. The left 4 cylinders are dead. I checked each injector. The 4 injectors ohm out 3.1 to 3.3 ohms and looks great. I changed the valve cover gasket and have everything properly hooked up, still no change. The engine is still only firing on the right side cylinders and not the left. I checked the ohms on the connectors that plugs into the valve cover gasket and they look good. With the engine running, I can see the ohms pulsing when the injectors are to fire. Everything is showing the wiring and injectors are good. So why would that side be dead? Any ideas? Thank you for any help.
