Default powerstroke help

i have a 96 powerstroke it's an automatic, and the light is on at the end of the shifter lever , it is a E40D and the only problem i have with it is it will not go into overdrive, so far i have changed the oil and filter. When i dropped the pan i didn't see any major amounts of metal or clutch material just a little bit of stuff on the magnet and the oil looked pretty clean. The only other thing i have done i pulled the harness off and checked for broken wires and i replaced the switch in the end of the shifter lever. Can anybody give me any suggestions as to what is going on ?

My 99 did that to me, FIRST hit the button on the end of your shifter, cause that button will lock your tranny out of over-drive when your towing, If the light doesn't go out, check your RPM gauge, does your RPM gauge work ??? I had to get a new tranny, cause my started slipping,

Sounds like a switch issue or a TCM Issue

i scanned my truck with three different scanners and there are no codes for the trany , i'm thinking there is either a broken wire that is keeping the over drive off or there is a internal problem that is not allowing the trans to go into overdrive ,but wouldn't both of those set some kind of a code ?

Check the harness that comes out of the shifter handle, at the bottom. I bet you'll find it worn through on the steel parts of the column.

i did and there is nothing wrong with the wires right there i unplugged the wires right there and ohmed them out from the switch and they were all good , i'm maybe thinking that it might be a the connection to the pcm bc those are the only wires a can't really see , does any body have the pin numbers to those two wires that are on the pcm i know the one wire goes to number 17 fuse and the fuse is ok i just need to trace those two wires so i can make sure that they are ok
