Default Speedo not workn

Well when i bought my truck last year the oringal rear axle needed a new pinon bearing and posi among other things. The shops wanted $1200 for that job. So i ended up on putting a rear axle out of a 1993 F250 with 163kms on it.(Sterling 10.25") It had 4.10s and the posi was still reasonbly tight.

It bolted in no prob and is still working fine todate. But the speedo doesnt work now. I got a new connector for the VSS on the axle but still wont show how fast im going. Kinda annoying. Any ideas on how i would fix it? I kinda would like to know how fast im going by looking at my guages.

which fuse? I guess check under the dash for a blown one

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I will goto the parts store and compair 93vss vs 94 vss. Then see if a new one does the trick

yeah there will be a fuse under the dash for it. your fuse cover should tell you which one is for the speedo..

Well checked the fuses, none were blown.
Bought a new VSS for the axle. Still didnt do it.
Cleaned the pumpkin out of the old fluid and put new axle fluid in. Still nothing.
Bought a new pig tale connector for the VSS. And still nothing.

there is no fuse for the rearend to the psom, maybe there is one for the psom, but there is only a pulse coming from the rearend to the psom, and I'm not sure where the fuse for the psom is without conulting the wiring schematic I have, but I would have to agree that you probably need a new sensor on your rearend.

the process is as follows....
you get a pulse signal from your rearend to your abs module....
your abs module sends a voltage signal to your psom
your psom sends said signal to your pcm to make your cruise work....

I only learned all of this because my cruise quit working. I have never tracked down the problem and ford wants $380 for a new psom (programable spedometer odometer)

might be a dumb question but did you check if the donor axle assy had the reluctor ring mounted on the carrier next to the ring gear for the speed sensor. if so i have also seen a few of these trucks rub wires through around the rear axle, cant remember what the wiring can come in contact with im thinking it was the park brake cable. just take a good look at the wiring from the vss sensor. and follow it up through the frame and as far as you can chase it. check connections as well.
