Default New truck, Blowby and smoke

So I sold my idi and bought a 96 f250 it's a 7.3 4x4 extended cab long bed with 206k on it, the truck sat for a long time. Long story short I bought the truck for $3500. It runs good, it smokes when it's idling and it has a real low idle like just over 500 with a loping startup. It smoked out of the dipstick tube, but I put a little o ring in there and it stopped, then I did a blowby test with the cap turned upside down and it moves off, I'll get a video here soon. On idle it smokes and on a smooth acceleration from stops. My question is, is this amount of blowby certainly worn out rings or a broken ring or could it be something else

heres a video of the blowby and smoke

Can anyone help?

Do the exhaust fumes smell heavy like oil? Hows oil consumption? I've been reading around on other forums/threads and 7.3L motors with broken rings are guzzing oil like crazy.

Does the oil level rise? Because that sort-of also sounds like Injector o-rings. Depending on what o-ring, but yes. Middle rings will pump oil into the fuel, because the HPOP pressure is greater than the mid-fuel pressure. Then top rings will leak diesel into the oil valley. Lower rings will leak compression and leak down feul into the cylinders.

Maybe a compression test, then putting it on a scanner to read live data. Compression tests are @#$^&**()!!! Not hard if you do it yourself, but be prepared if not. You take the glow plugs out and put the tester in the same holes. So "pricey"... but shops charge too much to do it. You always should get a baseline of where you are at health-wise, especially with a new to you vehicle.

And if you are in far enough to do a compression test, replacing the glow plugs then is not going to cost any more in labor, as you have to take those out to do it. Pulling injectors is only a few more bolts from there... (while it's opened up.)

Yes to like all 3 oil smells a little like fuel, and it may rise a little now that I think about it.

When I start in the mornings and try to reverse up my driveway it will hardly go 3mph unless it warms up for about 10 minutes or more and it's probably only getting to 38 degrees at night...

Then what I would do is do a cylinder contribution test to see what is going on where. You don't want to run it too much (just for testing) like that as the diesel in the oil will wash the main and rod bearings. Replace the oil like yesterday.

Yes it sounds like injector o-rings. If you are handy, it's really not rocket science to replace them. The 8 injector seal kits will run you around $80. In the price of labor that;ll kill you, if you don't do it yourself.

But the good news, is that the short block is probably sound. A compression test would verify that. Should be consistent and around 400 psi plus.
